Deputy Commissioner Operations, Australia Federal Police
Leanne is Deputy Commissioner Operations in the Australian Federal Police. This role encompasses Organised Crime and Cyber, Crime Operations and International Operations. Leanne Close was Deputy Secretary, Criminal Justice Group in the Attorney-General’s Department from March 2016 until March 2017. In this role Leanne was responsible for Criminal Casework, Criminal Justice Policy and Programmes, International Legal Assistance and AusCheck. In 2005, Leanne was awarded the Australian Police Medal. Leanne was conferred with a Masters of Educational Leadership in 2001.

Journalist, Author and Presenter
Catherine is one of Australia’s leading commentators on women and the workforce. A journalist, author and presenter, she is regularly invited to address audiences around Australia ranging from the Defence Force to corporates and local government, and often appears in the media. During a long career with the Australian Financial Review she edited several sections of the publication, and wrote the Corporate Woman column and for Boss magazine before leaving to set up her own consulting business in 2012. Catherine helped establish the annual Westpac/Financial Review 100 Women of Influence Awards and is on several advisory boards, including the Australian Defence Force Gender Equality Advisory Board.

This session will explore the Women & Leadership Australia’s 100 Days for Change initiative which represents one hundred days of taking practical action to effect real change. We will work together to identify change levers, outcomes and commitments.

Triple Paralympic Gold Medallist and Business Woman
When Katrina was 18, on a netball scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport, she discovered that a weakness on her right side was a mild case of Cerebral Palsy. With the discovery of her CP, Katrina Webb decided to take the next step and compete in the Paralympic games. At her first Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, Katrina won a Gold Medal in the 100m and 200m sprint and a Silver medal in the Long Jump. At the Paralympics Games in Athens 2004, Katrina Webb won a Gold medal for the 400m sprint and set a new Paralympic Record. Katrina’s success on the track has made her one of Australia’s top performing Paralympic athletes.

Annabel Crabb is one of Australia's most beloved journalists. She is the host of ABC TV’s enormously popular Kitchen Cabinet series, and recently wrote and presented a ground-breaking documentary series set inside Parliament, entitled “The House, with Annabel Crabb”.Annabel is the author of The Wife Drought, a best-selling account of women and work in Australia, and of Stop At Nothing, a Walleye-winning biography of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Other books include her cookbook, Special Delivery, co-written with childhood friend Wendy Sharpe. With friend and ABC colleague Leigh Sales, Australia’s pre-eminent current affairs journalist, Annabel hosts the top-rating podcast Chat 10 Looks 3.

Iain Anderson is the Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Secretary, Civil Justice and Corporate Group in the Attorney-General's Department (AGD). Iain is responsible for civil justice policy and programs, constitutional law, civil law, the Office of International Law, corporate operations and budget, ICT, human resources, and strategy and delivery across AGD. Since joining AGD in 1990 Iain has worked in many areas, including the Australian Government Solicitor, and has led divisions responsible for criminal justice; strategic policy; native title; territories; legal services and classification. He has also led the in-house legal area of the Australian Taxation Office. Iain has degrees in Law and Economics from the University of Sydney.

Named one of AFR-Westpac's Top 100 Influential Women in Australia in 2014, Dai has over two decades of storytelling skills and change making experience. Dai was a former award-winning journalist, film-maker and broadcaster with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She founded DAWN, a social enterprise that connects emerging leaders from culturally diverse backgrounds with senior and executive leaders from mainstream institutions through its online community, face-to-face events, and workshops in partnerships with corporate Australia and mainstream institutions. DAWN’s mission is to develop and build leadership capability for the next generations of leaders from culturally diverse backgrounds to influence and lead Australia.
Professor Brian Schmidt
Vice-Chancellor and President, Australian National University
Professor Brian P. Schmidt was appointed Vice-Chancellor and President of the Australian National University (ANU) in January 2016. Professor Schmidt is the 12th Vice-Chancellor of ANU. Winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics, Professor Schmidt was an astrophysicist at the ANU Mount Stromlo Observatory and Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics before becoming Vice-Chancellor. Professor Schmidt received undergraduate degrees in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Arizona in 1989, and completed his Astronomy Master's degree (1992) and PhD (1993) from Harvard University. Under his leadership, in 1998, the High-Z Supernova Search team made the startling discovery that the expansion rate of the universe is accelerating. Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, the United States Academy of Science, and the Royal Society, he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2013.

Few people have had a greater impact on developing the capabilities and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders than Rachelle Towart OAM. As an Indigenous woman with a powerful personal story of the effectiveness of leadership development, Rachelle has elevated awareness of the importance of Indigenous leadership and governance capacity to the national stage. After building friends and experience in a range of public service roles, Rachelle uncovered her natural capabilities for leadership and development through the support of mentors a strong network of extended family. Moving to the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre in 2004, Rachelle was appointed CEO in 2007 and transformed the organisation, tripling revenue and more than doubling enrolments while putting Indigenous leadership firmly on the national agenda.. Equally at home in boardrooms and remote traditional communities, Rachelle is invited to speak at hundreds of events each year and is a strong advocate for Indigenous leadership and governance.

Lisa has held many roles in the construction industry in both the public and private sectors and has found a real passion for the built environment. She loves the diversity of working in construction, the daily challenges, being on site and the mate-ships that have developed. There are so many different facets to the industry and Lisa believes that there is a real and significant place for women in construction. Lisa is a true advocate of women in the construction industry promoting the skills and qualities that cannot be learnt by formal training but are natural attributes that women have and are so required in this changing industry. Lisa is the Company System Manager for Project Coordination (Australia) Pty Ltd and the Chair of the ACT Construction Industry Safety Reference Group.
