Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women awarded symposium grants
64 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women from every state and territory have been awarded grants to attend the 2018 Australian Women’s Leadership Symposiums. The Symposiums take place in every state and territory capital between May and August. The grants program has two main aims. Firstly, to ensure the views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are represented at the Symposiums. Secondly, to help support the development of strong and effective leadership across Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Grant awardees are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who play active roles at the community, local and state leadership levels. 2018’s 64 grant awardees have experience in a wide range of sectors, including the arts, sport, community services, facilities management and government.

Enhancing my own leadership capabilities is vital to achieving that goal. Additionally, I am very keen to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and values within the remarkable network of women the Symposium creates” said grant awardee Angela Young, General Manager – Policy and Research at the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council.
